An Invitation to Come Home

The source is within you. And this whole world is springing up from it. ~Rumi

The practice of yoga is many things but at its essence yoga is an invitation to come home to our own true divine nature. No matter the reason we step onto the mat, whether for physical benefits, a spiritual workout, or just to be in the company of others, eventually there is a revelation that occurs, bit by bit, as we return to the mat again and again. This can happen without our even knowing it until one day we catch a glimpse of the peace in our being, the compassion in our hearts.

The word ‘yoga’ means to yoke, to join, to engage and at its root is about connection. Connection of body/mind, inner/outer, student/teacher, dark/light, individual/universal, so that we no longer stand apart from one another, we no longer stand in opposition to ourselves. Yoga is a system through which we can experience the sacred in the everyday by bringing awareness to our connection and exercising that part of ourselves that is longing to be revealed and seen as nothing short of divine. Through a continued practice, we begin to move away from identifying with limitations and seperation. We release feelings of incompleteness as we move back towards an experience of  wholeness. We open our hearts to all that IS as yoga calls upon us to re-integrate us with Us.

The divine union we seek is our true nature – to be remembered rather than aquired. It lies dormant in each of us, longing to be revealed, to be brought from the darkness of our limited thinking into the light of unlimited possibility. By remembering who we are, we can rest in the comfort that each of us is the ebodiment of the divine, each of us is perfect just as we are, each of us is an integral part of that something that is greater than each of us alone. What unites us is what has always been there without fail, without judgement, without condition.

We come to yoga not to aquire something new that we don’t yet have but rather to re-connect with all that we already are. Yoga is the invitation, your open heart the acceptance, your remembrance the key. We find that the door was never locked. It’s never too late. Welcome Home!
